Editorial Policy
How we research, update, and correct what we publish.
How we research
We prioritize primary Japanese-language sources — government agency pages (the Immigration Services Agency, the National Tax Agency, municipal offices), official guidelines, and specialist legal and administrative firm commentary — over English-language aggregators, which often lag behind policy changes or blend fact with speculation. English-language sources are used as a secondary cross-check, not a primary source.
Accuracy and updates
Rules in Japan change frequently — visa requirements, tax rates, and insurance thresholds especially. We date our content, and our visa and legal articles include an Official Sources section linking to the primary references we used. Always verify current requirements directly with the relevant authority before making a decision based on anything you read here.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we fix it. If you spot an error, let us know and we'll review it.
Not professional advice
Our content is informational, not legal, tax, or immigration advice. Consult a licensed professional — a registered administrative scrivener (gyoseishoshi), a tax accountant, or a lawyer — for decisions specific to your situation.
