For most daytime arrivals, the simplest Haneda to Tokyo choice depends on your hotel district: take Keikyu for Shinagawa and western Tokyo, a through Keikyu train for Asakusa, or Tokyo Monorail via Hamamatsucho for the Tokyo Station side. Direct airport buses spare you a transfer but cost more and depend on road traffic. If you land late, check the last departure after you clear the airport, not your flight's scheduled landing time.
Haneda to Tokyo: choose by your final district
Haneda has three passenger terminals. Check your airline's arrival terminal first, then use the rail or bus station signs there. Keikyu's airport rail station serves Terminals 1 and 2 together, with a separate Terminal 3 stop; Tokyo Monorail has stops at all three. Published journey times usually start at a platform, not the arrivals hall. The table therefore separates an operator's rail journey time from the rest of the trip.
| Destination | Practical daytime route | Published rail time / fare basis | Direct bus, if useful |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shinagawa | Keikyu train | 14 min published; ¥330 paper fare to Shinagawa | Usually unnecessary for station-area hotels |
| Shibuya | Keikyu to Shinagawa, then JR | 26 min published; Keikyu fare plus JR fare | Keikyu Bus ¥1,300 adult |
| Shinjuku | Keikyu to Shinagawa, then JR | 33 min published; Keikyu fare plus JR fare | Airport Limousine ¥1,400 adult |
| Tokyo Station | Monorail to Hamamatsucho, then JR | Monorail ¥520 paper fare plus JR fare | Keikyu Bus ¥1,200 adult |
| Asakusa | Keikyu through train onto Toei Asakusa Line | 37 min published; through fare varies by ticket or IC | Check hotel-specific bus stops |
Times are Keikyu's published major-station figures, checked 2 October 2026, where shown. They exclude your wait, changes, station exits and walking to accommodation. Fares are one-way adult figures on the operators' live pages; the rail fare for a transfer adds the second operator's ticket. For an exact total, use the operator's route search for your terminal, station and departure time. The ¥330 Shinagawa paper fare is for the airport rail trip; IC fares can differ by a few yen.
Search the hotel address, not just Tokyo
Tokyo Station, Shinjuku and Shinagawa are different transfer targets. Find the hotel's nearest exit and whether it sits beside a bus stop before choosing. A direct bus to the wrong side of a large station can create a longer final walk than one rail change.
When the Keikyu train is best
Keikyu is the straightforward route to Shinagawa, a useful interchange for JR trains. It also connects towards Shibuya and Shinjuku through a JR change at Shinagawa. Keikyu's airport access page shows a 14-minute ride to Shinagawa, 26 minutes to Shibuya and 33 minutes to Shinjuku for representative connections. These are possible train itineraries, not a promise that every departure reaches the destination in that time. Check the airport platform's destination display and train type before boarding.
For Asakusa, some Keikyu services continue onto the Toei Asakusa Line and reach Asakusa without a physical transfer. That is particularly useful if your hotel lies near Asakusa Station rather than Tokyo Station. Keikyu lists 37 minutes to Asakusa as a representative journey. Through-running does not mean every train has the same destination or fare; the platform display and route search settle both.
A rechargeable transport IC card can make transfers easier, but it does not convert an airport bus ticket into a railway ticket. If you instead plan a longer first week, compare the arrival transfer with the rest of your Tokyo stay itinerary before buying a special rail pass.
When Tokyo Monorail or a direct bus makes sense
Tokyo Monorail ends at Hamamatsucho, where JR lines take you onward. Its adult paper-ticket fare from Haneda to Hamamatsucho is ¥520 on the fare table checked 2 October 2026; the IC fare is ¥519. Add the JR fare if your destination is Tokyo Station or another JR stop. This route often fits a hotel near Hamamatsucho, Tokyo Station or the eastern Yamanote Line better than travelling via Shinagawa.
The direct Keikyu Bus to Tokyo Station stops at the Tekko Building on the Yaesu side and lists an adult one-way fare of ¥1,200. The direct Haneda–Shibuya airport bus lists ¥1,300; the Airport Limousine Shinjuku route lists ¥1,400. On arrival, use the bus counter or machine to choose a specific departure, especially where a timed boarding ticket is required. A bus can be convenient with large luggage and a hotel near its stop, but the operators warn that road conditions can change arrival time. Do not use a road-time estimate to set a tight onward train connection.
If you will also arrive through Narita or compare flights, the separate Narita to Tokyo transfer guide covers that airport's routes. Use the Japan trip budget calculator to put the airport transfer alongside hotel and daily spending rather than judging a fare in isolation.
Taxi flat fares: check the ward and the clock
The Tokyo Hire-Taxi Association's current Haneda flat-fare table took effect on 20 April 2026. It lists designated destination zones by ward. The table below is for an eligible ride using the flat-fare scheme, before expressway tolls. The night rate applies from 22:00 to 05:00. Your hotel's ward matters: a Tokyo Station address normally falls in Chiyoda, while Asakusa falls in Taito.
| Destination ward | Day flat fare | Night flat fare |
|---|---|---|
| Chiyoda (Tokyo Station area) | ¥7,600 | ¥9,000 |
| Shibuya | ¥8,500 | ¥10,000 |
| Shinjuku | ¥9,000 | ¥10,700 |
| Taito (Asakusa) | ¥9,100 | ¥10,800 |
Shinagawa is not a single uniform flat-fare destination in this scheme; some nearby areas use a meter. Even for the wards above, the scheme has geographic and operator conditions and expressway charges are separate. Give the taxi queue attendant your hotel address and ask for the fare category before entering. Splitting a legitimate flat fare among a group can narrow the gap with multiple bus tickets, but a taxi's road time remains variable.
Flat fare is not the full invoice
The quoted taxi amounts are the association's fixed transport fare for eligible zones. Budget for expressway tolls on top and confirm which route and operator apply. For a destination outside the zone, request a meter-based estimate rather than assuming the nearest ward's number.
Late-night arrivals: plan from the arrivals exit
Landing time is a poor proxy for the last train you can catch. A delayed flight, passport control, baggage collection and the walk from Terminal 3 to its station can consume the available window. Keikyu and Tokyo Monorail publish terminal-specific, weekday and weekend timetables. Look up the last usable connection to your destination for your arrival date, including the JR or Toei leg; the last airport train alone may leave you stranded at an interchange.
Some airport bus routes list late-night stops, including Shinjuku, but their departure times and availability are route and date specific. Confirm a seat and the last departure on the operator's live timetable before depending on one. If no service reaches your hotel, an eligible flat-fare taxi or a room near Haneda are the practical fallbacks. This is also relevant for a pre-dawn flight: an early train to the airport may start later than check-in requires.
Check the entire connection after immigration
On a late arrival, write down the last service from your terminal and the last connecting service at Shinagawa or Hamamatsucho. If either is too early for a realistic airport exit, choose a confirmed late bus, taxi or nearby hotel before you fly.
A simple arrival sequence
- Confirm the flight's actual terminal and your hotel's nearest station or bus stop.
- Choose a route to that point, not just to a famous Tokyo interchange.
- For rail, search the complete connection and fare for your arrival day; for bus, select a specific departure and boarding stop.
- For a late arrival, check the last connecting service and price the taxi zone as a fallback.
- Keep your hotel address in Japanese to show station staff or a taxi attendant if needed.
For onward travel after the first night, place the transfer into a seven-day Japan itinerary rather than treating the airport leg as the whole transport plan.
Frequently asked questions
Is Haneda closer to Tokyo than Narita?
Yes. Haneda is in Tokyo, and Keikyu lists a 14-minute train ride from its airport station to Shinagawa on a suitable service. Narita is outside the city and needs a separate airport transfer. Your actual journey from either airport also includes immigration, baggage, walking to the station, waiting and the last leg to your hotel.
Can I take one train from Haneda to Asakusa?
Yes, on a suitable Keikyu train that continues onto the Toei Asakusa Line. Keikyu publishes 37 minutes to Asakusa as a major-station journey time. Check the destination display: not every airport departure goes through to Asakusa, and some journeys require a change. A printed ticket or IC card covers the applicable through fare.
How much is a taxi from Haneda Airport to Shinjuku?
The Tokyo Hire-Taxi Association’s fare table effective 20 April 2026 lists ¥9,000 for the Shinjuku ward flat-fare zone by day and ¥10,700 at night, from 22:00 to 05:00. Expressway tolls are extra. The flat fare applies to eligible pickup and drop-off points with a participating operator; confirm the destination zone and total with the taxi stand before boarding.
Do Haneda trains run all night?
No. Keikyu and Tokyo Monorail run to published last departures, and a flight landing before midnight can still leave too little time after immigration and baggage collection. The airport bus routes have separate schedules and some late-night stops. Check the date, terminal and actual time you can reach the platform, then arrange a taxi or airport-area hotel if no suitable departure remains.
What is the easiest way to reach Tokyo Station from Haneda?
The Keikyu Bus airport route is a direct option to the Tekko Building at Tokyo Station’s Yaesu side; its adult one-way fare was ¥1,200 when checked in October 2026. For a rail route, take Tokyo Monorail to Hamamatsucho and transfer to JR for Tokyo Station. The monorail portion costs ¥520 with a paper adult ticket; the JR leg costs extra.
